Start by cooking the rice, using the directions on the box.
When the rice is halfway finished, heat the broiler to high, with the rack on the second from the top position. Snap off the tough ends off the asparagus and discard. Place the stalks on one half of a baking sheet, and drizzle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Cut the ham steak into 4 ounce servings, and place on the other half of the sheet.
Broil, watching carefully, until the asparagus is spotty brown and the ham is heated through, 4 to 5 minutes. Serve!
